NHS Changes

In this period of uncertainty following the government’s listening exercise, PAMMtrak will continue to track medicines management changes as budgets gradually shift from PCTs to GP consortia.

Medicines Management in the new NHS: this survey was conducted in October/November 2010 amongst 100 PCO medicines management decision makers. The survey looked at the impact of the NHS restructure on the priorities, motivation, and intentions of medicines management professionals. Results are now available free. In the meantime here are the key milestone dates to keep in mind:

  • April 2012: NHS Commissioning Board fully established
  • Autumn 2012: NHS Commissioning Board makes allocations for 2013/14 direct to GP consortia
  • 2012: Formal establishment of all GP consortia
  • 2012/13: SHAs are abolished
  • April 2013: GP consortia hold contracts with providers
  • From April 2013: PCTs are abolished
